If you have a passion for kids ministry and empowering parents to be spiritual leaders in their homes, we’d love to hear from you. Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene (The Woods) is eagerly seeking a talented and passionate Children’s Pastor to join our team.

 

:: Overview of Children’s Pastor ::

The Children’s Pastor’s primary role and responsibility will be to oversee and lead the Woods Children’s Ministries (WCM) under the direction and leadership of the Lead Pastor. We believe Children’s Ministries is one of the most important tasks in the life of the church. Children are not just the future of our church, they are the church today.  The Children’s pastor will be instrumental in fostering a dynamic and engaging children’s ministry experience every week.

To fulfill this role, the Children’s Pastor must first and foremost maintain a growing relationship with Jesus Christ by knowing God intimately, growing in community with others, serving on a ministry team, and sharing in Christ’s mission to the world. This includes:

  • Maintaining a personal quiet time with Bible Study and worship
  • Participating in a Small Group at The Woods on a regular basis
  • Engaging in personal evangelism with those outside the church
  • Keeping watch over one’s heart and mind
  • Receiving open and honest feedback for the purpose of accountability

 

:: Children’s Pastor Core Responsibilities ::

  • Maintain an authentic and growing relationship with Jesus Christ so that ministry is an overflow of one’s daily walk and spiritual growth.
  • Remain passionate about sharing the WCM vision with families in the church, people in the community, and volunteers.
  • Build the necessary teams to carry out the vision for WCM at The Woods.
  • Reach children who do not know Christ by being relevant and providing a safe space for them to connect with other kids and leaders.
  • Connect with parents weekly and equip them to be the leader of their child’s spiritual development.
  • Provide pastoral care.
  • Plan and participate in major seasonal and/or outreach events.
  • Manage the WCM budget.
  • Participate fully in staff meetings.
  • Set annual goals for WCM that are in line with the overall vision of The Woods and evaluate how those goals were attained or modified during the year.

 

:: Education & Experience ::

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Three years of experience preferred
  • Track record of growing and leading teams
  • Educational and/or classroom management training preferred
  • Training with children with exceptionalities preferred

 

:: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities ::

  • Proven ability to recruit, lead, and develop a team of volunteers to carry out the vision for ministry
  • Proven ability to manage projects with strong attention to details and administrative skills
  • Ability to manage and engage a large group of children
  • Ability to communicate effectively with families who listens well
  • Ability to work closely with the staff and Lead Pastor to accomplish any other objectives on a weekly basis
  • Preferred skill and knowledge of technology in Children’s Ministries including the following: ProPresenter, Planning Center Online, MailChimp, Text-in-Church, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Office/Mac comparable

  • Have a clear call to Topeka and a heart for reaching the city with the gospel of Jesus Christ
  • Be in agreement with and able to teach The Church of the Nazarene’s Articles of Faith and Covenant of Christian Conduct
