POSITION SUMMARY
Trinity Church of the Nazarene exists to make more and better disciples of Jesus Christ by loving God, loving people, and serving our community. The Associate Pastor to Youth & Families plays a key leadership role in this mission by providing primary pastoral leadership and discipleship for students in grades 6–12, while also offering strategic and administrative support to Children’s Ministry (birth–5th grade).

This role focuses on cultivating a vibrant, Christ-centered youth ministry that integrates students into the life of the church, equips families to disciple their children, and fosters meaningful engagement with the broader community. In partnership with volunteers and staff, the Associate Pastor will help ensure that both Youth and Children’s Ministries are aligned with the church’s mission, vision, and values.

This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week. The majority of time and energy will be devoted to Youth Ministry, with secondary responsibilities providing leadership, coordination, and backend support to Children’s Ministry.

ACCOUNTABILITY
The Associate Pastor to Youth & Families is directly accountable to the Lead Pastor and works collaboratively with the pastoral staff and ministry leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)

STUDENTS
Develop and implement programs that deepen the faith of our young members and integrate them into the life of the church. Build relationships with the students in our congregation and local community, guiding them to know God deeply and grow in their faith.

  • The Associate Pastor to Youth & Families will provide vision, leadership, and pastoral care for the student ministry of the church.
  • Develop, articulate, and implement a clear vision and strategy for Youth Ministry that aligns with the church’s mission and discipleship pathway.
  • Plan and lead weekly youth gatherings, retreats, mission trips, and special events that are spiritually formative, relationally meaningful, and developmentally appropriate.
  • Create and oversee a biblically faithful, theologically aligned, and culturally relevant teaching curriculum for students.
  • Build strong, incarnational relationships with students, providing mentorship, spiritual guidance, and pastoral care.
  • Recruit, train, equip, and support adult volunteers and student leaders for effective ministry.
  • Integrate students into the broader life of the church through worship, service, small groups, and intergenerational relationships.
  • Develop outreach initiatives that engage unchurched and dechurched students in the local community.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians, partnering with families in the spiritual formation of students.
  • Manage the administrative components of Youth Ministry, including scheduling, budgeting, communication, and event logistics.
  • Serve as a pastoral presence for students and families in times of spiritual, emotional, or personal need.
  • Participate in the pastoral care rotation as directed by the Lead Pastor.
  • Collaborate with church staff to ensure Youth Ministry is fully integrated into the church’s overall ministry strategy.

CHILDREN
While not the front-facing leader of Children’s Ministry, the Associate Pastor to Youth & Families will provide backend leadership and strategic support to ensure a healthy, cohesive ministry for children and volunteers.

  • Provide oversight, coaching, and encouragement to Children’s Ministry leaders and volunteer teams.
  • Help ensure coordination and cohesion among all children’s environments (nursery, preschool, elementary, and midweek programs).
  • Collaborate with Children’s Ministry leaders and the Lead Pastor to develop and maintain an annual ministry calendar.
  • Assist in curriculum selection and implementation in alignment with the church’s theology and discipleship goals.
    Support volunteer recruitment, training, communication, and care within the Children’s Ministry.
  • Help ensure smooth onboarding and connection for new families with children.
  • Maintain clear communication with staff regarding children’s ministry needs, events, and volunteer support.
  • COLLABORATION & CHURCH-WIDE CONTRIBUTION
    Participate in staff meetings, ministry planning, and church-wide initiatives.
  • Support outreach and community engagement efforts related to families, students, and children.
  • Perform additional pastoral or ministry-related duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor in support of the church’s mission.

PERSONAL & SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A vibrant, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a clear sense of pastoral calling.
  • A lifestyle marked by integrity, spiritual maturity, and emotional health.
  • Theological compatibility with and active participation in the Church of the Nazarene.
  • Wholehearted support of the mission, vision, and values of Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
  • A teachable, collaborative spirit and a healthy respect for the leadership of the Lead Pastor and church board.
  • Strong relational skills and the ability to build trust with students, families, volunteers, and staff.
  • If married, a supportive spouse and family who affirm the calling to ministry.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

District-licensed or ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene (or actively pursuing credentials).
Demonstrated experience in Youth Ministry, with a proven ability to connect relationally and lead spiritually.
Experience leading, recruiting, and developing volunteers and ministry teams.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Demonstrated administrative competence, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based ministry environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and emotional intelligence in navigating ministry challenges.
