Children’s Ministries Job Description

Key Responsibility: To serve as a full-time ministry staff member to provide chief visionary leadership to children ministries from birth through 5th grade with directly engaged leadership to ministry for elementary children in 1st through 5th grades and their families, in the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

Reports Directly To:

Senior Pastor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Develop a clearly defined vision and strategy for discipleship within the Children’s Ministry that work in conjunction with the overall vision and mission for ministry at NFCN.

2.      Recruit, screen, train and coordinate volunteer leaders for Children’s Ministry classes, programs, events, and worship services. Work cooperatively with all staff and volunteers.

3.      Provide a vibrant, warm, friendly, and educational environment for children and families.

4.      Work collaboratively with multiple ethnic congregations to ensure engagement with their children and involvement with their ministry volunteers.

5.      Develop and implement strategy for whole-family discipleship; working with families to equip and empower parents/families to disciple their children.

6.      Use appropriate child development knowledge to best meet the needs of NFCN Kids in curriculum selection and classroom management.

7.      Attend children’s extracurricular events as able (sports, drama/plays, choir performances, musical recitals, dance recitals, etc.)

8.      Engage volunteers with training and preparation to work one-on-one with those children who require it.

9.      Communicate the needs of the Children’s Ministry to other staff and church leaders as appropriate.

10.   Organize, stock, and setup classrooms and resource rooms with necessary supplies.

11.   Coordinate NazSafe and Ministry to Minors Policy protocols. Ensure all equipment works reliably for digital video surveillance and check-in/out with security system in place in Children Ministries.

12.   Works with Facility Management for building maintenance, setup, and repairs.

13.   Observe volunteers in ministry for the purpose of evaluation and support in order to address any issues that arise.

14.   Coordinate fellowship and outreach events as designated and needed:

a.      Summer Vacation Bible School

b.      Eggstravaganza (Community Egg Hunt)

c.      Fall Fest (Community Trunk or Treat)

d.      2 Weeks of Children’s Camps with Mid-South District at Camp Garner Creek

e.      District Children’s Events

15.   Assists Senior and Associate Pastors in visiting laity members as requested.

16.   Partners to Lead a Mother’s Day Out program throughout the week.

17.   Collaborates with Leadership in Emmaus with structure of and supplies for the children’s corner.

18.   Attends weekly staff meetings, and regularly scheduled ministry team meetings as determined.

19.   Project, plan, and administer the Children’s Ministry annual budget.

20.   Coordinates childcare for NFCN services and events as requested.

21.   Participate in the life and worship of the NFCN Worship Community.

22.   Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Pastor, Senior Pastor, or Executive Pastor as requested.

 

Qualifications:

1.      Has a personal, active, and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

2.      Energetic, warm and enthusiastic about sharing God’s love with children of multiple ethnicities.

3.      Physically capable of sustained weekly activities and able to lift a 50 lb. child.

4.      Maintains confidentiality with sensitive information.

5.      Excellent written and verbal communication.

6.      Children’s Ministry experience required (volunteer or paid).

7.      Bachelor’s degree required. An emphasis in Family Ministry, Christian Education, Pastoral Ministry, or Education is preferred. Special consideration will be given to an elder, deacon, or district licensed minister in the Church of the Nazarene.

8.      Must be in harmony with the Articles of Faith and the Covenants of Christian Character and Conduct of the Church of the Nazarene.
