Church Staff Position – 10 hours/week, $1000 per month (with options for more hours/pay)

Living Water Church of the Nazarene is committed to Christ through worship, community formation, and service. We are a community offering radical hospitality, gathering at the epicenter of San Diego’s homelessness crisis in East Village, and pursuing discipleship through a communal effort to overcome social and economic barriers that drive us to isolation from God and one another.
We are looking for a part-time staff member who can contribute to the life and work of our church in a variety of ways. This position is somewhat flexible, with space to lean into particular areas of giftedness or interest.

Position Responsibilities:
Children’s Ministry –
–              Help with our Sunday children’s church
o       Use established curriculum to teach children during the sermon time (~45 min)
o       Teach bible stories, lead crafts, and provide other types of learning/discipleship engagement
o       Provide pastoral care for the kids
–              Invest in the children of the church through meaningful discipleship and relationship building
–              Be prepared to offer hospitality to visiting families
–              Help us plan well for children at church events and gatherings
–              Current regular children range from 1-11 years old (volunteers will help with the “very littles”)
Shelter Support –
–                 Help us run our Inclement Weather Shelter (November- March)
–                 Support admin needs for the shelter
o       Communication with staff and volunteers during activations
o       Help with supply and food inventory
o       Direct shelter support on evenings or mornings, where needed
–                 Potentially help with intake during the day (optional – extra pay for hours worked)
–                 Potentially provide overnight staff (optional – extra pay for hours worked)
Ministry Organization –
–                 Manage volunteers in various ministries across the life of the church (compassionate ministries, small groups, worship, events, etc…)
–                 Organize and manage systems to help keep our work flowing efficiently
General Ministry –
–        Be flexible and available to help where needed during events, ministries, and worship times
–        Provide love and pastoral care for congregants and neighbors
–        Help solve problems and get things done
Trauma work –
–        We have developed cutting-edge trauma programming that we are looking to build and share with the wider church community
–        There may be opportunities to grow into this work with us as we continue to develop it

Requirements:
–        Commitment to Christ
–        Calling to ministry
–        Social skills – ability to communicate well, lovingly deal with difficult people (including people with severe mental health issues and substance abuse issues), de-escalate acute conflicts, and demonstrate emotional awareness and maturity under stress.
–        Responsibility – ability to do what you say you will do, show up when you are supposed to show up, and look for ways to contribute to the collective work without needing to be directed
–        Flexibility and openness – a willingness to learn and grow, and to be in community with people from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to meet needs that arise, deal with changing plans or needs, and deal with the unexpected.
–        Skill with children – commitment to treating children with respect, love, and compassion. Ability to meet kids on their level. Experience working with children is strongly preferred.
–        Strong follow-through skills
–        Ability to share constructive suggestions, solve problems collaboratively, and work toward improving our collective life together without needing to be prompted to do so
–        A background check will be required for this position.
