JCNAZ: YOUTH PASTOR
Position Overview:
The Youth Pastor will work with a team of servant leaders to help our youth lead and guide our church’s middle and high school students. Our aim is not just to create church attenders, but rather fully devoted, radically obedient, Spirit-filled followers of Jesus. We are aiming continually at true heart transformation, not simply behavior modification.
Role Overview:
The youth pastor will strive to help all students understand the journey of faith, encourage students who are interested in the knowledge of God, and support them to develop their love for Him and others. This pastor will attend student functions at schools/homeschool events, grow relationships with the education community, community leadership and provide students and their families with biblical counseling. This pastor will also place the support of the overall church through outreach and Sunday events as a priority in addition to supporting Youth Ministry.
Accountability Overview:
Day to day operational responsibilities will report up through the Youth Pastor position with oversight by the Executive Director and overall accountability to the Lead Pastor.
Mission Effectiveness:
Provide students with a place to belong that gives them the courage to be different and resilient to unhealthy peer pressure as well as help prepare them for living out their Christian faith and be effective disciple makers post high school.
Responsibilities include:
Proficient understanding of the challenges young people face and are compassionate.
An authentic, growing, deepening relationship with the Lord.
Integrity and purity of heart
High organizational skills and knowledge of how to effectively lead people.
Leadership development skills
Work in biblical unity with fellow pastors and volunteers, cooperating, assisting and following a do whatever it takes attitude for the good of the mission.
Attending and participating in staff meetings.
Overseeing, growing, and coordinating the church’s youth ministry.
Effective, engaging communicator. Both public speaking and interpersonal communication.
Designing, overseeing, and examining curriculum for all youth programs, events, and classes.
Leading middle and high school students to encourage their spiritual growth.
Interacting with students during Sunday services, instilling a passion in them for worship.
Developing positive relationships with students and their parents.
Leveraging social media to help communicate the Gospel and highlight the work of God in and through the church.
Displaying a Christ-like approach, lifestyle, and praying regularly for young people in the church and community.
Incorporating youth into various church ministries for His use.
Leading students to live out of a Biblical worldview and a deepening desire to learn, love and live out God’s word at every level.
Church Operations:
Responsible for ensuring the operational readiness of the church through leadership and oversight of the support staff, human resources, business processes, policies, and technology serving finance, guest and member information, and facilities systems.
Responsibilities include:
Monthly 1:1 check-ins with team leads to insure ministry effectiveness.
Assessing effectiveness of the church database systems, communication methods, and recommendation of changes.
Assisting and providing input during budgeting process in conjunction with the Board
Ensuring that all guidelines for Budget expenses and purchases are followed
Other Responsibilities:
Attend weekly staff prayer meetings & Staff meetings
Take on other responsibilities that may or may not be directly related to the traditional role of the Youth Pastor when so directed by the Executive Director of Ministry Operations and Lead Pastor.
Participate with the preaching team 2-3 times a year according to giftedness.
Take part in all “All Hands On Deck” events throughout the year
About Junction City Church of the Nazarene
Church Measurables: We currently average between 500-550 in our 2 weekend worship services and growing! We have averaged over 400 first time guests over the each of the last 5 years. We have seen over 500 public decisions for Christ since 2017. We have had the joy of baptizing more than 200 people since 2017, and 65 already in the last 5 months! Our children's ministry averages 100+ children on a typical Sunday. Our youth group is experiencing great growth and currently averages between 50-60 students during the Sunday evening student worship gathering.
Our church staff also includes: Lead Pastor, Executive Pastor, Connections Pastor, Worship Pastor, Director of Children’s Ministry, and two part-time employees.
Our community: We are very much a regional church with people attending from surrounding communities such as Manhattan, Grandview, Chapman, White City, Herrington, Ogden and Fort Riley. We are a military community and the proud home of Fort Riley Army Installation (The Big Red One!). We have the blessing and privilege of ministering to, discipling and serving alongside the great men and women of the Army and their families. Due to the nature of military rotation, we welcome and get to meet so many wonderful people from all over the world, and we say good-byes often and send them out to serve Christ and build His Kingdom in their next assignment. The Junction City community has a population of approximately 25-30k. We are a very diverse community with people from literally all over the United States and even the world. Our school district is one of the best in the state of Kansas. USD 475 is ranked No. 23 overall amongst best school districts in the state. The No. 23 ranking is out of 275 districts. We have an Early Childhood Center, 8 city elementary schools, and 4 elementary schools on Ft. Riley. We have two middle schools (one in Junction City and one on Ft. Riley. We have a brand new state of the art high school (largest in the state of Kansas and third largest in the nation). Milford Lake (Kansas' largest lake) is an easy drive from Junction City. The nearby community of Manhattan, KS is full of great restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Salina is 45 minutes west. Topeka is 1 hour east. We are also 2 hours from larger cities such as Wichita and Kansas City.
