Hope Community Church is a growing congregation in the Church of the Nazarene, rooted in Wesleyan theology and passionate about helping people know Jesus, grow in faith, and live on mission. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an Associate Pastor who is passionate about developing leaders, caring for people, and helping build healthy ministry teams. Position Summary
The Associate Pastor will provide leadership by coaching ministry leaders, strengthening volunteer teams, offering pastoral care, and helping advance the mission and vision of Hope Community Church. This person will work closely with the Lead Pastor and staff to create healthy systems, develop new leaders, and cultivate a culture where people are equipped to discover and use their spiritual gifts.
While opportunities to preach and contribute to the overall vision of the church are available, the primary calling of this role is not simply to do ministry, but to equip others to do ministry.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership Development
- Coach and encourage ministry leaders across multiple areas of the church.
- Help leaders develop clear vision, goals, and healthy ministry strategies.
- Recruit, train, and develop volunteers into effective ministry teams.
- Create systems that encourage leadership growth, accountability, and multiplication.
- Identify emerging leaders and intentionally mentor them for greater responsibility.
Pastoral Care
- Share in the pastoral care responsibilities of the church, including hospital visits, counseling, prayer, follow-up, and crisis care.
- Build relationships with individuals and families, helping them take next steps in their faith journey.
- Participate in weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other pastoral responsibilities as needed.
Vision & Church Leadership
- Collaborate with the Lead Pastor and staff to implement the overall mission and vision of Hope Community Church.
- Contribute ideas that help the church continue to innovate and grow.
- Help evaluate ministries and develop new opportunities that effectively reach people.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning, and strategic decision-making.
Teaching & Communication
- Preach and teach periodically during weekend services and other ministry environments.
- Communicate biblical truth consistent with Wesleyan theology and the doctrines of the Church of the Nazarene.
- Equip and encourage leaders through teaching, coaching, and personal discipleship.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate a vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Affirm and support the beliefs and practices of the Church of the Nazarene and Wesleyan theology.
- Have a passion for developing leaders rather than simply leading ministries personally.
- Be an effective communicator with the ability to teach God’s Word.
- Possess strong organizational, relational, and leadership skills.
- Be humble, teachable, hardworking, and highly collaborative.
- Thrive in a team environment and celebrate the success of others.
- Be a self-starter who enjoys building systems, solving problems, and trying new ideas.
- Demonstrate emotional maturity, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Hold or be willing to pursue ministerial credentials within the Church of the Nazarene.
