Position: Associate Pastor of Youth Ministries

Mountain View Church of the Nazarene is seeking a dedicated and experienced Associate Pastor of Youth Ministries (aka Youth Pastor) to lead our youth ministry and assist with general pastoral duties. The ideal candidate will be a committed Christian with strong communication skills, formal training, practical experience in pastoral and youth ministry, and ordained or seeking ordination in the Church of the Nazarene. Responsibilities include overseeing youth programs, guiding the spiritual growth of our youth, assisting in worship planning, managing administrative tasks, and participating in community and professional activities. Job Summary: The Associate Pastor of Youth Ministries will be responsible for the spiritual and administrative leadership of the church’s youth ministry and general pastoral duties. This includes overseeing youth programs for junior high and senior high students, as well as assisting with various church functions and administrative tasks.

Qualifications:

1. Personal:

  • Be a committed Christian living in accordance with the Word of God.
  • Agree with the doctrinal statements of the church and abide by the bylaws.
  • Be flexible, teachable, and willing to serve.
  • Communicate effectively with all groups within the scope of ministry.

2. Training and Development:

  • Be thoroughly informed and experienced in pastoral and youth ministry practices.
  • Have appropriate formal training (BA or higher in biblical studies or Christian ministry disciplines preferred) and practical youth ministry or previous pastoral experience.
  • Attend conferences, conventions, and professional workshops for personal and ministry enrichment, as needed or directed.
  • Continuously hone your Bible and relational skills.

3. Professional

  • Ordained or seeking ordination (licensed) in the Church of the Nazarene.

Responsibilities:

1. Youth Ministry:

  • Assist the church board and discipleship council in determining a philosophy of youth ministry based on scriptural principles.
  • Set up a balanced program of youth education and ministry, including Sunday School, midweek ministries, discipleship, and missions.
  • Develop policies and procedures for effective youth ministry.
  • Recruit and train leadership for youth staff positions.
  • Lead, guide, and counsel youth in personal Christian growth and development.
  • Coordinate with district and denominational youth programs and activities.
  • Ensure a safe environment for youth, including background checks for all youth workers.

2. General Pastoral Duties:

  • Visit shut-ins, residents in rest homes, and hospitals.
  • Help the Senior Pastor coordinate counseling for spiritual problems and make appropriate referrals for congregants.
  • Preach in the senior pastor’s absence or upon request.
  • Assist in baptisms and administering the sacraments.
  • Teach in the Sunday School department as needed.
  • Participate in one-on-one discipleship and public worship services.
  • Oversee greeters, and ushers, as needed.

3. Worship:

  • Assist the pastor in worship planning and utilize musical gifts (if any), as desired and/or needed.
  • Assist with or perform weddings and funerals as needed.

4. Administration:

  • Manage the church office in cooperation with the senior pastor, when the Office Administrator is absent.
  • Manage the Youth calendar of events and monitor the cost-effectiveness of youth ministry operations, communicating frequently with the Office Administrator and Church Treasurer.
  • Participate in the development of the annual youth ministry budget and policy manual.
  • Develop a volunteer worker program to assist with youth ministry administrative work.

5. Staff Relationships:

  • Be accountable directly to the senior pastor and keep regular office hours.
  • Attend all staff and church board meetings.
  • Cooperate fully and work in harmony with the entire staff for the good of the church.
  • Serve as staff liaison between various committees as assigned by the senior pastor.
  • Assist Office Administrator and Senior Pastor to plan and arrange for church board and staff retreats.

6. Community and Professional Involvement:

  • Be active in local community activities that provide ministry and professional growth opportunities, including partner ministries and at the local middle and high schools.
  • Participate in district ministry and pursue continuing education.
