STUDENT MINISTRY DIRECTOR
Job Title: Student Ministry Director
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Department: Youth – (5th through 12th)
Effective Date: 08/01/2024
Ministry Description:
This person will be a self-starter, highly relational, and highly motivated individual who has a clear calling to serve students and lead them to higher levels of love for Jesus. They will love people and life and have a strong desire to reach other students for Christ. This person will lead student ministries (5th-12th grade) at High Pointe Community Church by establishing a culture that will lead more students to a deeper walk with Jesus and help reach far more!
This individual will work directly with the children’s pastor and senior pastor to develop a plan that encompasses the vision of the church through student ministries. He or she will be working with a solid team of volunteers and will work with the current board member who serves as the district NYI leader. The individual should have a mature devotion to Jesus and a desire to see the kingdom grow through their ministry.
Supervisory Roles:
Recruits and trains volunteers
Oversees the daily workflow of the ministry
Provides timely evaluation of all areas
Handles discipline or correction in a godly and loving manner
Ensures overall health of the ministry in 5 areas: relationships, discipleship, team building, church engagement, and outreach.
Areas of Responsibility:
Relationships: This person will spend 1/3 of their time outside the office each week to cultivate relationships with students, leaders, and volunteers and bridge to the outside student community. They will seek creative and engaging ways to get to know, create fun, and develop relationships with those they serve and those they are seeking to reach. They will love to be with people and create engaging, fun, and highly relational ways to connect with students and the community.
Team Building: This person will recruit, train, and develop the volunteer team at HP. They will build a cohesive and energized team through encouragement, healthy training, and communication with those they serve.
Discipleship: This person will oversee the curriculum, and the teaching and cultivate the model to produce fully devoted followers of Jesus with our students and adults. They will seek to come alongside parents and help equip them to raise more fully formed
disciples at home as well as help our adults worship in spirit and truth.
Outreach: This person will cultivate an overall ministry that will be creative, fun, engaging, and designed to reach more students for Christ. This is a high relationship role and priority will be placed on being engaged with building others up and helping our ministry connect, engage with, and bless the larger local community in ways that make a difference.
Overall Church Engagement: This person will cultivate a presence with the overall church by having exposure in the big church environment, potentially through helping in worship or some other way, and having students serve in the larger church family and also be involved in the overall larger Nazarene district.
Required Skill and Abilities:
1. Self-starter, super relational, idea-generating person.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
3. Excellent attention to detail for effective planning and the ability to delegate effectively.
4. Excellent time management skills, initiative, and leadership abilities.
5. Magnetic personality with a lot of energy and creativity who is able to prioritize activity that balances relationship building, discipleship, team building, outreach, and church engagement.
6. Worship experience and a heart for worship who can contribute to the adult and youth worship ministry is a plus. It helps with overall church engagement and adds to the overall worship environment.
Education and Experience:
Prior work experience in this field is important, with a track record of success, and some theological studies. A bachelor’s in theological studies is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of being out in the community and enjoying physical activity should be able to lift things that weigh more than 15 pounds at times.
