The Pastor to Children and Families is expected to champion and contribute to Grace church’s mission to Love, Grow, Serve, Go. This key role requires you to work with paid staff and volunteers to develop a welcoming and kid friendly & family appropriate atmosphere. What we are looking for is a person called to ministry, who will work hard, be a team player, and can disciple others to grow in their faith and their ability to lead for the Lord.

Part-Time: 10-15 hours/week

Financial Package: The Pastor to Children and Families will be paid an annual salary beginning on a part-time basis. The annual salary will be determined by the Church Leadership Team.  Salary breakdown can be adjusted as possible.

Primary Expectations:

The Pastor to Children & Families will provide leadership and oversee the ministry program that includes age-appropriate mission activities, retreats, Bible studies, and other events. The Pastor to children & Families would develop new kids programs while continuing to implement and foster established programs. The Pastor to Children & Families should be positive, energetic, outgoing and highly personable. The Pastor to Children & Families will be the communicative leader for teachers, youth, and parents, and would be specifically responsible for duties that would include:

Be Present

  • Attend Sunday Worship Gathering:
    • Sunday Grace Groups
    • Attend Mid-week Refuel
  • Attend Church Activities & and Outreach/Special Events
  • Be a part of the Church Staff Meetings (when work schedule permits)
  • Be a part of church community events
  • Outreach/Special events – assist where needed, working, assist with set up before & clean up after events

Children’s Ministry (birth – 5th grade)

  • Spend quality devotional time with Jesus seeking to grow your relationship with Him.
  • Be a spiritual leader and example to those involved in the children’s ministry.
  • Recruit, equip, and train children’s ministry team volunteers
  • Ensure environments are SAFE: Naz safe, age-appropriate, fun, engaging
  • Provide Christ-centered teaching that encourages kids to take next steps in their relationship with Jesus
  • Teaching and Discipleship: Develop and deliver age-appropriate lessons, Bible studies, VBS Coordination, and discussions that address the unique needs and challenges faced by kids and families today.
  • Oversee curriculum for the Kids ministry (working with NDI President for Sunday Grace Groups)
  • Provide age-appropriate avenues for kids to serve
  • Keep families constantly informed by providing engaging, accurate, and timely communication (text, email, website, & social media) and encouraging their active involvement.
  • Work to help assimilate kids and families into the Kids ministry at Grace Church
  • Schedule and resource kid ministry volunteers (kids church, Wednesday night ReFuel, & VBS)
  • Kids Ministry Activities: Plan and organize regular kids group meetings, events, and activities that promote fellowship, learning, and fun within a Christian context.
  • Being the point of contact for all kids ministry staff and volunteer (Nursery volunteers, Kids Church volunteers, Parents, Families, VBS, Kids Events/activities).
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the Pastor, church leadership, and volunteers to integrate our children’s ministry into the overall church mission and activities.
  • Discuss any communication items with the Lead Pastor prior to it being sent out or told to our ministry volunteers.

Other Responsibilities

  • To make prayer an essential component in all gatherings and ministry groups / services
  • Encourage and equip those involved in the Children’s Ministry
  • Demonstrate competent leadership and administrative skills, healthy communication, and technology/computer literacy and skills
  • Communicate with the Church Staff Team plans for the Ministry
  • Provide items for weekly church emails to the church office secretary
  • Assist where necessary using your gifts and graces for ministry

In addition to ministering to children and their families, the Pastor to Children & Families may be asked to:

  1. Participate in the preaching rotation as needed
  2. Participate in visitation outside of their ministry area when needed
  3. Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor

 Supervisor:

The Pastor to Children & Families is supervised by and will report to the Lead Pastor.

Requirements

  • Complete and Pass a background check
  • Intentional and continual growth in your walk with Christ
  • Agreement with the beliefs and values of the Church of the Nazarene
  • Ability to maintain levels of confidentiality when managing sensitive situations
  • Ability to teach and connect with children and their families on a level they can understand and apply
  • Strong work ethic
  • Integrity in all areas of life (Relational, Financial, Spiritual)
  • Children Ministry experience
  • A team player

Vacation:

Part time Staff are allowed 2 Paid Sundays per year for Vacation (based on start date). Communicate these with the Lead Pastor.  The eligible weeks off is per year for Vacation (based on start date) and do   not carry over from year to year. Vacation request must be submitted in writing, at least two weeks prior to the requested time off, to the Lead Pastor to review prior to being approved for time off.

EVALUATIONS:

Each year the Lead Pastor will sit down with the staff person and together look at the profile with fresh eyes.  Both will evaluate job performance based on the profile agreed on the year previous.  For the new year, adjustments will be made if necessary.  Both will sign off on the agreement together and it becomes the guide for the new year.
