The youth pastor is responsible for implementing a strategy and building a team that will partner with families to disciple 6th-12th grade students. As teens grow in faith, they will be equipped to love, serve, and lead those around them. We want to see teens hearing and responding to God’s voice because we believe God has a plan and purpose for them right now. An extremely important aspect of this position is the spiritual character and integrity of the individual who fills it. All staff are expected to participate in the overall mission and life of the church.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure the youth department is aligned with the overall church mission to love God and one another, serve as we have been served, and lead by example.
- Lead, supervise, train, and coordinate all ministries to middle school and high school students and to their families as appropriate. This includes Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, and special events.
- Provide effective promotion and advertising of the ministry to the church body at large and coordinate all programs and events.
- Develop and submit an annual budget request for the Youth Department and oversee expenditures in order to maintain budgetary integrity.
- Develop an annual ministry plan with specific measurable goals and strategies to achieve them.
- Create an annual calendar of events focusing on both in-reach and outreach.
- Recruit, train, resource, encourage, and lead all youth staff and volunteers ensuring that they understand the purpose and strategy of the youth ministry and how that helps fulfill the overall mission and vision of the church.
- Ensure all staff and volunteers have a background check and that all policies as outlined in the “Goodnaz Safe Policy” are followed (connect group leaders, teachers, event chaperones, etc.).
- Provide all students with the opportunity to take steps to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior and subsequently, baptism.
- Encourage students to explore their giftedness, grow in their faith, be involved in ministry, and become fully devoted followers of Christ.
- Work closely with the Elementary Pastor and Young Adult pastor to ensure a smooth transition between departments.
- Maintain proper facility care of the youth spaces.
- Track and coordinate connections for teen ministry including but not limited pastoral care and follow up when absent.
- Maintain databases and administrative systems such as Planning Center, Clearstream, Canva, attendance, social media, etc.
