Rooting in God,Growing in Christ,Reaching Out in the Holy Spirit
The church is thriving under the current pastoral leadership. The pastors have accepted a call to serve as sponsored missionaries in the Church of the Nazarene, which the congregation has supported.
The church is currently praying and searching for the next Lead Pastor. They are seeking an experienced Leader with demonstrated strengths in Pastoral care / Shepherding, Preaching, and Relational abilities. The hope is that the right candidate will continue leading with a missional focus in the surrounding neighbourhood and equip the congregation to disciple the many relationships that have been built.
The senior pastor would be well-suited to continue leading the congregation in becoming incarnational in the area. The senior pastor should become familiar with the issues facing our Indigenous peoples of Canada. There is also a growing international population, some of whom are becoming connected to our Nazarene people. This position is suitable for American candidates as it is full-time.
The congregation is excited about the woman or man that God is preparing to lead into this next season of ministry.
Church Description:
This church is located in Edmonton, Alberta, the capital city of the province. The city has a population of approximately 1.23 million people. Edmonton is only a 3.5 hour drive from the picturesque mountain town of Jasper, located in the Rocky Mountains. There are currently three Nazarene congregations in the city. Southside’s building is located in the residential neighbourhood of Erminskin. This church is mortgage free and is currently staffed with two pastors, office administration, and a custodian.
There has been an intentional focus on becoming a a church for the community. The congregation has started a coffee cafe called the Atrium which is open to the community and has become a busy place! There is a possibility of a new church start from the regular cafe attendees. There are ESL classes and other community groups that meet weekly in the facility. The church has partnered with the community school and regularly volunteers for events, supplies food boxes and clothing for families in need, and participates in teacher appreciation events. Southside is also a big supporter of Building Hope, the Nazarene Compassionate Ministry in the city.
The church’s mission is based on Scriptures such as Psalm 1, Jeremiah 17:8 and Colossians 2:7 which describe a healthy growing tree that is firmly rooted and bearing fruit.
The vision of this local Church is that everyone in the local community (and beyond) has an opportunity to believe and belong in Jesus and His Church.
They also dream that all who call Southside Community Church their home Church become active disciples of Jesus.
The desire is to be a holistic church which not only focuses on spiritual needs, but addresses both physical and practical needs of those around them.
