Worship Pastor – Ministry Profile
Position Summary
The Worship Pastor is a Spirit-filled leader who shepherds the congregation into meaningful, Christ-centered worship. This role provides pastoral, musical, and technical leadership to cultivate worship gatherings that glorify God and help people grow as disciples of Jesus. The Worship Pastor works closely with the Senior Pastor and ministry leaders to develop services that are Spirit-led, biblically grounded, and engaging for the congregation.
Core Responsibilities
Worship Leadership
- Pray for, plan, and coordinate weekly worship services in collaboration with the Senior Pastor.
- Lead congregational worship vocally and, when possible, instrumentally.
- Coordinate music, media, and service elements to create worship gatherings that are spiritually meaningful and well-prepared.
- Ensure worship gatherings reflect biblical truth, theological integrity, and cultural awareness.
Team Development & Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, train, schedule, and shepherd volunteers for worship gatherings, including:
- Worship musicians and vocalists
- Sound, media, and technology teams
- Hosts, ushers, greeters, and security teams
- Disciple and mentor volunteers spiritually, relationally, and skillfully.
- Develop future leaders within worship and production ministries.
- Assist in guiding and developing the youth worship band and student worship ministry.
Technology & Media Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight of worship technology and digital ministry.
- Oversee social media engagement and the church’s online worship presence.
- Record, edit, and produce Crossroads-specific video content for worship services and ministry needs.
- Maintain working knowledge of, or ability to learn, key systems including:
- Planning Center
- Multitracks
- ProPresenter
- Video editing software
- Soundboard and in-ear monitoring systems
- Train volunteers to operate worship technology effectively.
- Steward and maintain worship ministry equipment and resources.
Pastoral & Ministry Participation
- Participate in pastoral care, prayer ministry, and congregational discipleship.
- Collaborate with staff and ministry leaders in the overall mission of the church.
- Delegate responsibilities appropriately to ministry leaders and volunteers.
Spiritual & Character Qualifications
The Worship Pastor should demonstrate a growing and vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and a clear calling to worship ministry and pastoral leadership. Their life should reflect the work of the Holy Spirit, evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit and a lifestyle shaped by prayer, a deep love for God’s Word, a passion for worship, and a pursuit of holiness, while living in agreement with the Articles of Faith and core doctrines of the Church of the Nazarene.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong vocal ability (instrumental proficiency preferred).
- Experience leading worship and coordinating worship services.
- Ability to recruit, train, and lead volunteer teams.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Ability to engage a multi-generational congregation in worship.
- Competency in worship technology and production environments.
Accountability & Relationships
- Reports directly to the Senior Pastor.
- Works collaboratively with pastoral staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
- Participates in staff meetings, planning sessions, and leadership development.
Time Commitment & Employment
- Position Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)
- Typical Schedule:
- Generally 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM with flexibility. One Sabbath day should be taken during the Monday–Friday work week in addition to Saturday, as Sunday is considered a workday.
- Compensation: Based on experience and qualifications.
- Benefits: No additional benefits such as health insurance or housing allowance are provided. Employees may designate a portion of their compensation toward housing, health insurance, or similar needs.
Ministry Milestones & Expectations
Within the First 6 Months the Worship Pastor will seek to:
- Build relationships with current worship and technology volunteers.
- Establish consistent worship planning rhythms with the Senior Pastor.
- Evaluate current worship ministry structures, technology systems, and volunteer needs.
- Begin strengthening volunteer recruitment, training, and scheduling processes.
- Improve clarity, preparation, and flow in weekly worship gatherings.
- Identify potential leaders within worship and production teams.
Within the First Year the Worship Pastor will seek to:
- Develop a healthy, growing volunteer culture within worship and production ministries.
- Establish clear leadership structures for worship and technology teams.
- Strengthen the quality, spiritual depth, and congregational participation in worship gatherings.
- Expand digital ministry and online engagement.
- Develop and mentor emerging leaders, including youth worship leadership.
- Implement sustainable systems for planning, training, and ministry development.
