MISSION STATEMENT of the Connecting Point Church of the Nazarene: To love all people into a passionate relationship with Christ.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Youth Pastor is responsible to lead our church in making fully devoted followers of Jesus, specifically those grades seventh through college age, by ministering to not only the youth but their families as well.  

QUALIFICATIONS: The Youth Pastor should be called into vocational Christian ministry with a passion to win youth to Christ and to disciple them to maturity.  

The Youth Pastor job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by a staff member of the Connecting Point Church of the Nazarene. It is not designed to contain, or be interpreted as, a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications which may be required of staff members assigned to this ministry position.

REQUIREMENTS:

Live a committed Christian life in accordance with the Word of God, while modeling the Christian lifestyle in attitude and behavior. Tithing, regular church attendance, and other spiritual practices are expected.

Support and abide by the doctrine and polity of the Church of the Nazarene.

Have a heart for the family, as well as each individual. The home is an essential part of the Christian education process.

Be knowledgeable about young people, including the basics of age-level characteristics, psychology, and teaching-learning approaches. Be a competent and trustworthy spiritual guide.

Be a team player in ministry, displaying loyalty to the Lead Pastor and fellow staff persons.  

Be a strong, effective and servant driven leader, with effective communication for all groups in the scope of his/her ministry.        

Be flexible, teachable and sensitive to God’s leadership.

Display creativity in developing worship experiences and other programs to capture the interest of young people.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Organization and Administration

Guide the church board and Youth Leadership Team in determining a philosophy of youth ministry based on scriptural principles.

Set up a balanced program for youth education and ministry within the church, including an emphasis on participation in Corporate Worship, Growth Classes, Connecting Groups and Service Opportunities. Lead, guide and disciple youth in personal Christian growth and development. Direct a systematic method of preparing youth for church membership.

Lead in developing and carry out the policies and procedures for effective youth ministries.

Lead in recruiting for and meeting with youth leadership to pray, plan and train for dynamic and fruitful youth ministries.

Coordinate, cooperate and participate with the other ministries of the church and the Central California District youth programs.

Prepare and administer the annual budget for needs of youth ministries.

Design short-range and long-range goals for the youth ministry.

Prepare and submit a monthly written report for the church board.

Attend and participate in regular staff meetings where each staff member will be expected to coordinate calendars, discuss needs, share ideas for improving our ministries, and to strengthen administrative procedures.

 

Assistance

Assist each young person and volunteer leader in discovering, developing, and exercising his/her God-given gifts for ministry.

Promote the youth ministry outside the church, taking ministry into our schools and community as commanded in Matthew 28:18-20.

Hospital calling – share with Lead Pastor, fellow staff pastors, and Congregational Care Team in ministering to the sick. The lead pastor will determine the scheduling and frequency of this responsibility.

Participate with the Lead Pastor and fellow staff pastors, along with other lay persons in visiting prospective attendees, potential leaders, and those in crisis.

Sacraments – assist in serving the Lord’s Supper.

Worship – participate in leading the worship services with the Lead Pastor and Worship Arts Pastor.

Assisting with projects not directly related to your specific profile, as requested by the Lead Pastor, with a ready and willing attitude.

 

Training and Development:  

Attending conferences and conventions for personal growth and ministry enrichment.

Studying new materials, programs, methods for youth ministries and by making feasible curriculum and educational recommendations.

Guarding one day each week to invest in your family, in personal projects, and in rest and recreation.

The Connecting Point Church of the Nazarene in Denair, CA is seeking to hire a full time Youth Pastor to help us fulfill our mission to love all people into a passionate relationship with Christ!  We are an established church, with a positive reputation of serving and caring for those within our community.
