SUMMARY
The Associate Pastor of Youth & Children plays a key leadership role at Calgary First Church of the Nazarene, providing oversight to the spiritual development of 0-18 years of age. This role involves overseeing weekly discipleship programs, equipping volunteers, building strong relationships with families, and integrating the next generation into the full life of the church. The Associate Pastor also serves as a member of the pastoral team, contributing to the broader vision and spiritual leadership of the congregation.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about congregational leadership development, strategic discipleship, and event/program coordination, with a keen ability to balance logistics, communication, and relational engagement.
DETAILS
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week)
Schedule: Includes Sundays and one evening per week (approx.), with flexible weekday hours
Safety: Criminal record check and Ministry Safe training required (provided by church if needed, will accept Plan to Protect or other alternative abuse prevention training).
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Pastoral Leadership
Equip and encourage parents as primary disciplers of their children and youth
Participate as a member of the church’s pastoral team
Assist in Sunday services, pastoral care, and occasional preaching
Contribute to church-wide planning, vision, and spiritual direction
Champion the integration and presence of young people in all areas of church life
Design ministry experiences that are Christ-centered, fun, relational, and welcoming.
Children’s Ministry (Birth–Grade 6) – 60%
Provide vision and leadership for Sunday morning programming and curriculum
Equip and support volunteer teams; recruit and train leaders
Oversee special events (e.g., VBS, family nights, and outreach initiatives)
Youth Ministry (Grades 7–12) – 40%
Provide vision and leadership for weekly gatherings, events.
Mentor and support youth volunteers; empower student leaders
Plan retreats, worship nights, service opportunities, and fun events
Equip teens to own their faith and take part in the mission of God through service, leadership, and witness.
REQUIREMENTS
A growing, authentic relationship with Jesus Christ
Demonstrated passion for discipling the next generation
4+ years experience in children’s and/or youth ministry leadership
Strong communication, team-building, and organizational skills
Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, education, or related field (seminary preferred)
Alignment with the theology, mission, and practices of the Church of the Nazarene
