Youth Pastor Job Description

Purpose:
The Youth Pastor is responsible for the oversight and development of the Nazarene Youth Ministry (grades 6th-12th) at Berkshire First Church of the Nazarene. He/She will create programs, foster relationships, and equip students with the resources and support they need to thrive in life and find wholeness in Christ.

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Hours: Part-time (20-25 hours per week), flexible schedule, and paid vacation based on years of pastoral experience.

Compensation: $25,000 per year (or housing and stipend equivalent), an expense reimbursement account, and retirement contributions.

Primary Responsibilities:
1.    Build and develop Youth Leadership Team or NYI Council: Recruit, train, and mentor a team of volunteer leaders to support youth programs. This team should include the NYI President, parents/guardians, students, and adult volunteers.
2.    Develop and lead Youth Ministry volunteers: Leads and develops volunteers to support the youth ministry as chaperones, mentors, and helpers.
3.    Shape the practical, spiritual, and biblical framework: Create a strategic plan for youth ministry that aligns with the church’s vision and mission, the Articles of Faith of the church of the Nazarene, and that helps every student thrive in life.
4.    Organizes programming and events for students: Foster a welcoming environment where students can feel accepted and supported through various events, activities, bible studies, times of worship, District events, and outreach or mission projects.
5.    Provide spiritual and pastoral care to students and their families: Build relationships with students and their families, providing spiritual guidance, mentorship, and coaching.
6.    Be present in the lives of students: Attend games, recitals, concerts, performances, and other events important to the lives of students.
7.    Collaborates with NDI team: Works to develop, encourage, and equip discipleship across the broader spectrum of Christian education within Berkshire First Church.
8.    Maintains MinistrySafe policies and procedures: Follow and support all BFCN MinistrySafe policies and procedures. Work with the Church Board, NDI team, and Senior Pastor in updating and crafting new policies and procedures.
9.    Contributes to the overall vision of the church: Assists, along with the other pastoral staff, in the organization of the church calendar, strategies, and execution of the church’s mission and vision. Attends church board meetings.

Secondary Responsibilities:
1.    Teaching and Preaching: Share in the Sunday morning preaching responsibilities as needed and teach in small groups, Bible classes, and other ministry settings.
2.    Perform other pastoral duties as needed: Assist in areas of administering the sacraments, visitation, counseling, weddings, funerals, and other areas as time and expertise permit.
3.    Support the church in other areas as needed.
4.    Be a primary storyteller of lives transformed by God whenever possible.

Qualifications
1.    A deep, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion for youth ministry.
2.    Bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry, Theology, Christian Education, or equivalent experience (preferred but not required).
3.    Previous experience working with youth in religious or secular contexts.
4.    Ability to connect with students and foster positive relationships with them and their families.
5.    Strong leadership and communication skills.
6.    Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership, volunteers, and families.
7.    A heart for service and a desire to support students thrive in life.
