The Children’s  Pastor is responsible for developing a safe, engaging, biblically grounded ministry that helps children from Pre-K through 6th grade, know Jesus, grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and serve others.

The Children’s Pastor will lead and develop volunteers, partner with parents, and work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor and church staff to advance the mission and vision of Bedford Church of the Nazarene.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a high-impact children’s ministry that is creative, fun, welcoming, safe, and biblically sound.
  • Create environments where children can encounter Jesus, grow in their faith, develop friendships, and discover opportunities to serve in the church and community.
  • Provide leadership for weekly children’s programming, special events, milestone moments, outreach opportunities, and seasonal ministries.
  • Develop and maintain an annual children’s ministry calendar in alignment with the overall church calendar.
  • Ensure that all children’s ministry programs, events, and environments reflect the mission, values, policies, and ministry standards of Bedford Church of the Nazarene.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A clear and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by personal integrity, spiritual maturity, humility, and a servant’s heart.
  • A genuine love for children and a passion to see them grow in their relationship with God.
  • Alignment with the doctrine, mission, values, and practices of the Church of the Nazarene.
  • Strong relational skills and the ability to build healthy relationships with children, parents, volunteers, staff, and the broader church family.
  • Effective written, verbal, and digital communication skills.
  • The ability to recruit, develop, encourage, and empower volunteers.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to create alignment and shared ownership within the children’s ministry team.
  • Effective organizational, administrative, and time-management skills.
  • The ability to plan strategically, manage a budget, develop systems, and oversee multiple priorities.
  • Flexibility and composure when responding to unexpected needs, changing schedules, and ministry crises.
  • The ability to navigate conflict with courage, grace, wisdom, and a commitment to reconciliation.
  • A commitment to maintaining a safe, healthy, and excellent ministry environment for children and families.
  • The ability to multitask while maintaining appropriate attention to detail and follow-through.

Work Schedule and Environment

This position requires a flexible schedule that includes Sundays, occasional evenings, special events, training opportunities, and seasonal church activities.

The Children’s Pastor should demonstrate healthy personal, spiritual, and family rhythms while faithfully carrying out the responsibilities of the role.
