Associate Pastor for Family Ministries

JOB SUMMARY
The Pastor for Family Ministries is responsible for family ministry, which spans from birth to young adults. The primary goal is to connect, care, and encourage children and youth to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and foster a sense of community among them and with our congregation. This involves developing engaging programs, organizing events, recruiting volunteers, and raising ministry funds. Additionally, providing spiritual support from birth to young adulthood, the pastor also assists in recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers to enhance the effectiveness of the ministry. As a member of the Staff and Leadership Team, the Pastor actively promotes family ministries and facilitates interactions between children, youth, and the congregation.
JOB EXPECTATIONS
The primary role of this position is to lead youth programs, including weekly youth group meetings, retreats, and mission trips. Leading alongside volunteers, the pastor provides a forum for youth to learn about God in a fun, relevant, and friendly way, incorporating them into the church life and leadership. The secondary role is to lead family ministries. Work in partnership with the Lead Pastor and staff to meet objectives, strategies, and plans for the church’s family and youth ministry. Function as a member of the church’s ministerial staff by assisting with pastoral roles as needed by the team. Able to think, plan, and act strategically and relationally. Focused on developing leaders and has a passion for helping people grow personally and spiritually.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Be an advocate for family ministries and educate the congregation about children, youth and young adult’s hopes, concerns, and needs in the local church and community.
- Lead weekly youth activities. Prepare or provide Biblical instruction within the Church of the Nazarene doctrine.
- Be involved in recruiting and training volunteers who work with children and youth and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult-to-children ratios.
- Function as the overall leader of Youth Ministries, NYI Council, volunteer leaders, and ministry direction.
- Be Family Ministry representative and liaison at weekend worship services, including occasional preaching.
- Administer Ministry Safe background checks and develop a secure ministry area and policies for maintaining a safe environment for family ministry.
- Partner with Childcare Director in planning and staffing Childcare and Church events (VBS, Trunk or Treat, Summer Festival, Egg hunt, etc.)
- Create promotional materials and methods that ensure everyone at the church knows the family ministry area, its purpose and importance, and how to get connected.
- Support the Childcare Chaplain in ministry with staff, children and families, assist with weekly chapel.
- Communicate promptly and effectively using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.).
- Ensure communication with the Lead Pastor, church staff, leadership team, parents, volunteers, and the congregation.
Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all family ministry settings.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND SALARY
Although experience and proficiency with Youth and children is expected, this position can mold into Northwest Church of the Nazarene’s requirements, vision and goals. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in biblical studies or related field is preferred. (Extensive ministry experience, in some cases, can be substituted.) The successful individual will be a strong Christian leader with a solid work ethic and the ability to administrate as a department head. A working knowledge of office software, and social networking web applications is encouraged. Salary is very competitive for the area.
