About Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene
A Snapshot of the Stillmeadow Story
We are seeking a minister to oversee children and families within our family ministry. This person could be a pastor or a director who may have the desire to become a pastor. They would lead our kid’s ministry team and report to our Family and Adult Discipleship Pastor.
We use the term family ministry because we want to 1) Assist Families in the discipleship of their children 2) Equip families for discipleship in their homes 3) Engage families in ministries.
We recently adopted the tagline: “Jesus To All Generations.” This gets at the heart of who we want to be as a congregation, involving each generation in gospel community and gospel work so that the next generation will know Jesus and carry the gospel to the next. We live out that mission by arranging our church life to proclaim Jesus, pray relentlessly, cultivate growth, embrace unity, equip servants and love sacrificially. Our next kids minister will need to be someone who recognizes the importance of involving young people in the overall mission of the church and will hold our feet to the fire to make sure we find as many ways to do that.
God has placed Stillmeadow in a community that is a mix of rural, suburban and urban. Across the street from our main campus is a suburban neighborhood and a farmer’s field; and across the street from our city campus is an elementary school and a former county prison turned storage facility. In light of the sociological, economic and cultural diversity around us, our next kids minister will need to be someone who can minister across cultures.
God has also placed Stillmeadow in the age of anxiety. One of the ways that Stillmeadow counters the anxiety of the age is by embracing Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. We have found it helpful to have our leaders go through the EHS curriculum. We strive to lead with a non-anxious presence. Our next kids minister will need to be someone who is willing to develop their character and lead in emotionally healthy ways.
God has placed Stillmeadow in an age of changing cultural traditions. In this transitory time, Stillmeadow walks with individuals and families through the milestones of faith and life. We have a working “milestone map” of faith and life transitions, with which we hope to help our people deepen their trust in Jesus and share their faith in Him through the faith and life development process. Our next kids minister will need to be someone who sees the importance of “counting the days and making the days count.”
Since our former Children’s Family Pastor moved from her position to serve as Lead Pastor in another Nazarene church last March, our Stillmeadow Kids Ministry Team has been led and coordinated by our Kids Ministry Director and Family Ministries Assistant. We have a strong volunteer team and many in the church help with our children’s outreach events. Our current programing is Sunday morning worship and small groups, accompanied by seasonal outreach events and seasonal milestone events. Our next kids minister will need to be someone who can understand and evaluate our current people and programing in order to lead kids ministry into its next season that may include additional or reduced programming.
Kids Ministry is an essential part of “Jesus to all generations” and has drawn many younger families to Stillmeadow. We have kept a strong partnership with Stillmeadow Child Care that opens the doors for relationship with families in the community. We thank God for the leaders that we have had, that we currently have and those that are yet to come. We believe God has great things in store for our children, their parents and those who serve them. Our next kids minister will need to be someone who shares our appreciation for the past and our hope for the future.
