Mission Description

Northwestern Ohio District Church of the Nazarene

Reports to: District Superintendent, Andy Monnin

Summary:

To lead, develop, and manage operations for camps, retreats, and events to create experiences that are recognized as the best in our area. To provide environments and experiences where lives are changed, Jesus is honored and made famous, and forever memories are made. To develop and build up the camp to be break-even or profitable. To provide servant leadership to the camp employees, district churches, and the campers who come, showing them Christ and giving them excellence. 

Big Three: 

To market and develop the overall business of Cross Oak Camp in keeping with our church’s values and mission of changed lives
Marketing the camp through video, website, social media, and other means to grow the number of camps and retreats and camp income
Responding quickly to customer requests for information and pricing, providing tours, and helping customers schedule camps, retreats, and other events
Securing new events to increase the utilization of the camp and grow income
Coordinating scheduling so it’s a win-win-win for Groups, Cross Oak Camp and The District
Implementing a survey of customers to continuously monitor the camp’s quality to get customer feedback and continuously improve the camp

To coordinate all aspects of Camps, Retreats and Events
Food Service: Coordinating schedules and menus with the Head Cook so the kitchen/dining hall is properly staffed, meals are planned, and food is ordered. Ensuring food quality is high and people want to eat at the camp while staying within budget
Lodging: Creating lodging plans and coordinate with housekeeping staff to provide housekeeping for guests
Facilities: Coordinating with the facilities director on the camp schedule and make sure the camp is ready for groups
Accounting: Coordinating with District Treasurer to purchase materials and services, and handle income and expenses per district guidelines
Tracking expenses and invoicing for camps and retreats and ensure payments are received
Providing a strong onsite presence during camps, retreats and events to keep a pulse on guest needs and staff operations

To develop, along with the Facilities Director, the Camp Board, and the District Superintendent, the camping ministry so that it reaches thousands of people, while growing to be a profitable, high-quality venue.
Create an annual strategic plan to help the camp set targets for growth and quality that are doable but stretch us
Work with camp supporters in partnership with the camp board and the district superintendent to develop a strong stream of generous donors

Position Responsibilities & Vision:

Develop and continuously improve all camp processes, systems, operations, and the overall ministry
Provide overall organizational management and flow of the operations for Cross Oak Camp 
Follow and submit to the leadership of the District Superintendent, while using initiative and the freedom given to accomplish the mission effectively
Contribute to the overall learning and well-being of NWO by taking smart missional risks, trying new things, and sharing any learning with local church leaders, district teams and district staff
Be humble and have the will to do whatever it takes

Strong ability and EQ to work with people of various temperaments, gifts, passions, and church backgrounds
A strong organizational leader and is forward-thinking, focused on excellence, and moves the team to accomplish the mission
A willingness to stay relevant and make timely decisions while ensuring set standards are followed
Desire to work closely with local churches, district teams and vendors to develop meaningful relationships and serve them with excellence
Creative abilities to regularly think “outside the box” and be a smart risk taker 
Ability to build and maintain teams of responsible people through personal recruitment and coaching
Drive to strive for excellence and continual growth
