Website Northern California District Church of the Nazarene
Santa Rosa Nazarene Church is seeking an associate pastor who will share in the life and mission of the congregation while developing the breadth of experience needed for long-term pastoral leadership.
SRNC is in a season of intentional transition and renewal. The church is deepening a discipling culture with outside coaching and practices drawn from the 3DMovements (3DM) model, including Family on Mission, discipleship huddles, and an emphasis on hearing and doing what Jesus says. At the same time, Pastor Rick is intentionally sharing leadership and investing in the development of emerging pastoral leaders.
The congregation has a strong small-group and lay-ministry culture. Groups gather throughout the week around Scripture and community, while lay leaders serve in worship, children’s ministry, compassionate ministry, outreach, and other areas. Three congregations—English-speaking, Hispanic, and Laotian—share the campus and worship simultaneously on Sunday mornings.
Mission extends well beyond Sunday. SRNC has served with Redwood Gospel Mission, local schools, community events, a food pantry, Healing Rooms, and other ministries. The church also has longstanding global mission involvement in Mindanao, Philippines, and values trusted relationships with other pastors and churches across Santa Rosa.
This position is intentionally designed to help prepare an emerging or developing pastor for future lead-pastor ministry. The associate will gain exposure to the broad range of responsibilities involved in leading a local church: preaching, disciple-making, pastoral care, team development, administration, strategic planning, community engagement, and working with a church board.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preach approx. once per month to begin, with opportunities to grow in preaching and worship leadership.
- Participate in mentoring and training with Pastor Rick in disciple-making practices, including Family on Mission, huddles, and Hearing and Doing.
- Support and strengthen ministry leaders in missions, small groups, children’s ministry, outreach, and other areas of congregational life.
- Serve as a relational liaison with the Hispanic and Laotian congregations and with Rise & Shine.
- Help strengthen SRNC’s online and digital presence.
- Develop an area of ministry for which the associate has particular calling, gifts, or vision.
- Share selected administrative duties, including event planning and aspects of buildings and grounds.
- Build relationships with community pastors and participate in local ministry and service opportunities.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly church board meetings.
- Maintain a regular on-site presence, including approximately two office days per week.
