PEKIN FIRST CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE (Family Pastor)
JOB SUMMARY
The Family Pastor will provide vision, leadership, and relational ministry to help our church effectively reach, disciple, and equip the next generation. This position will oversee and develop ministry environments for children and teens, including weekly programs, small groups, camps, special events, and outreach opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A primary focus of this role will be recruiting, equipping, encouraging, and empowering volunteers to serve effectively in Kids and Youth Ministry. The ideal candidate will build strong relationships with children, teens, families, and ministry leaders while providing clear direction and helping teams understand where the ministry is going.
This role will balance hands-on relational ministry, volunteer development, event leadership, administrative responsibilities, and collaboration with church staff and leadership. The Family Pastor will work to create engaging, Christ-centered environments where the next generation can encounter Jesus, grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and discover how God has called them to serve.
Weekly Responsibilities Include:
- Running Wednesday night ministry for Refuge (Youth Group)
- Running Sunday morning worship & discipleship for KidZone (Kids Ministry)
- Giving oversight (but not regularly running) to Wednesday night ministry for KidZone and Sunday morning discipleship for Refuge.
- Attending weekly staff meetings
- Providing Pastoral care to kids, teens, parents, and ministry leaders/volunteers
- Assisting with PFN services/events as needed
Other Responsibilities Include:
- Attending a monthly one-on-one with the Lead Pastor.
- Providing training for volunteers and ministry leaders
- Connecting regularly with key lay leaders in Refuge & KidZone
- Maintaining ministry budgets with guidance from Executive & Lead Pastors.
- Completing a monthly board report.
- Attending District POPS events
- Attending District Assembly, Team Day, & Convention. And helping with hosting duties when needed.
- Attending camps, events, etc as needed
- All other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor
CHARACTER AND PASTORAL CARE
An extremely important aspect of this position is the spiritual character and integrity of the individual who fills it. He/she must be a team player, possess spiritual sensitivity, be saved and sanctified, be intentional about their personal spiritual growth, give tithes and offerings regularly to the church, attend consistently, agree and uphold the standards of the Church of the Nazarene, and use all social media responsibly, using good judgment and following the guidelines of PFN’s social media policy. He/she must exhibit these qualities in everyday life. Quality care for volunteers who serve on your team is expected. An attitude of humility and love for all is essential.
