This job description outlines the responsibilities and expectations for the position of Next Generation Pastor / Director of Student Ministries.

Next Generation Pastor / Director of Student Ministries
Position Summary
The Next Generation Pastor / Director of Student Ministries will provide leadership for both the youth and children’s ministries of Harris Chapel Church of the Nazarene. This individual will oversee discipleship efforts for the next generation, assist in the pastoral care of the congregation, and develop healthy ministry structures by equipping and leading volunteer teams. The position will work closely with the Lead Pastor, Church Board, and ministry leaders to cultivate spiritual growth and disciple children, students, and their families.
Essential Responsibilities Student and Children’s Ministries
● Lead and oversee all youth and children’s ministry programming and activities.
● Recruit, equip, and develop volunteer leadership teams.
● Coordinate local outreach opportunities and encourage participation in district events
and activities.
● Foster spiritual growth and discipleship among children and students.
● Develop and maintain child safety policies and procedures.
● Recruit, organize, and schedule weekly children’s ministry volunteers.
Pastoral Care
● Participate in visitation, prayer ministry, counseling opportunities, and other pastoral responsibilities as assigned.
● Support the overall mission and vision of Harris Chapel through servant leadership and teamwork.

Status
Part-Time (Approximately 20 hours per week)
Annual Compensation
$20,000 annually
The pastor/director is encouraged to be bi-vocational if they feel called to do so.
Following employment, there will be a three-month evaluation period during which the pastor/director, Lead Pastor, and Church Board will assess the effectiveness of the ministry partnership. If all parties agree to continue the partnership following this evaluation, the church parsonage may be offered as part of the compensation package.
The parsonage includes a three-bedroom, one-bath home with a garage located on church property, with utilities provided by the church. This will be in addition to the annual salary amount.
Schedule
● Approximately 20 hours per week.
● A minimum of one designated Sabbath day each week, free from ministry
responsibilities.
● Monday will serve as the primary office day for office hours and weekly staff meetings.
● Flexible office hours as ministry responsibilities require.
● Attendance is expected at staff meetings, planning sessions, worship services, ministry
events, and other scheduled church functions.
While this is a part-time position, ministry often extends beyond normal office hours. Evening, weekend, and emergency ministry responsibilities should be expected. The Lead Pastor is committed to protecting healthy ministry rhythms by encouraging regular Sabbath rest and maintaining a sustainable workload for all pastoral staff.
Community Ministry
A significant emphasis of this position is building relationships beyond the walls of the church. Community involvement is expected and may include:
● Local schools
● Community events
● Student activities
● Outreach opportunities
The goal is to minister not only within the church but throughout the community God has called Harris Chapel to serve.
Ministry Preparation and Licensing
Applicants who are not currently ordained or district licensed within the Church of the Nazarene should be willing to pursue the appropriate educational and licensing requirements if they sense a call to pastoral ministry.
Previous Ministry Experience
Previous ministry experience is preferred but not required. Applicants should demonstrate spiritual maturity, teachability, leadership ability, and a passion for discipling the next generation.
Evaluation and Accountability
To encourage healthy communication and effective ministry:
● Weekly ministry updates will be shared during staff meetings.
● Monthly reports will be presented to the Church Board.
● A formal performance evaluation will be conducted annually.
