Job Description: Young Adult Pastor

Classification: Full-Time

Our Mission and Vision: We are passionate about becoming more like Jesus and helping people come to know Jesus.

Position Summary: Lead young adults to become more like Jesus and help others come to know Him by connecting them to the BFC community and guiding them to engage in the core practices.

Key Responsibilities:

 

    • Lead young adults to engage in the core practices of BFC: worshiping together, spending one-on-one time with God, doing life together in groups, sharing our faith, serving with abandon, and sharing our resources

 

    • Connect young adults to the BFC community.

 

    • Shepherd young adults in spiritual formation and discipleship.

 

    • Recruit, equip, and empower a team of volunteers to invest in young adults.

 

    • Develop a thriving ministry that serves college students, young professionals, singles, and young married adults through age 30.

 

    • Create opportunities for authentic community, discipleship, leadership development, and mission.

 

Specific Areas of Responsibility:

 

    • Lead young adults to engage in the core practices at BFC
        • Inspire young adults to actively engage in all core practices.

        • Lead young adults to attend and participate in corporate worship on Sunday mornings.

        • Mobilize young adults into community groups, Bible studies, and discipleship groups.

        • Provide opportunities for young adults to serve within BFC and throughout the surrounding community.

        • Encourage consistent personal spiritual disciplines.

        • Teach and model the importance of sharing their faith.

 

    • Connect young adults to the BFC community
        • Help young adults make BFC their church home.

        • Create intentional pathways for young adults to become fully integrated into the life of the church.

        • Build relational bridges between young adults and the broader BFC congregation.

        • Encourage intergenerational relationships through mentoring, serving, and community.

        • Lead young adults to discover and use their spiritual gifts in the life of the church.

 

    • Shepherd young adults in spiritual formation and discipleship
        • Serve as the primary pastor for young adults.

        • Walk alongside young adults through significant life transitions including college, career, marriage, parenting, and vocational discernment.

        • Provide biblical counsel, encouragement, and pastoral care.

        • Help young adults develop a Christ-centered identity and biblical worldview.

        • Cultivate a culture of discipleship that fosters development of spiritually mature followers of Jesus.

        • Identify, mentor, and develop emerging leaders within the ministry.

 

    • Recruit and empower a team of volunteers
        • Recruit volunteers who are gifted and passionate about investing in young adults.

        • Equip volunteers through ongoing training, encouragement, and leadership development.

        • Create clear volunteer roles and pathways for engagement.

        • Foster a healthy culture of ownership, discipleship, and multiplication among volunteer leaders.

 

    • Develop and lead the Young Adult Ministry
        • Cast vision for a thriving young adult ministry aligned with the mission and vision of Bethany First Church.

        • Plan and oversee gatherings, discipleship environments, and social events.

        • Develop ministry strategies that effectively engage both college students and non-college young adults.

        • Partner with other BFC ministries to create seamless ministry transitions from student ministry into adult life.

        • Build relationships with local colleges, universities, and community organizations that serve young adults.

 

Qualifications and Position Requirements:

 

    • Exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God, a teachable spirit, and a healthy personal life.

 

    • Strong biblical and theological background;

 

    • Is in agreement with Church of the Nazarene Statement of Faith

 

    • Lives a lifestyle in full agreement with the Church of the Nazarene Covenant of Christian Conduct and Covenant of Christian Character.

 

    • Self-motivated leader; demonstrates the ability to create and execute a long-term vision for young adult ministry at BFC.

 

    • Strong relationship capabilities; has a passion for reaching people for Christ and helping people become more like Christ.

 

    • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field; candidates who have a call to ministry are on the track for ordination.
