Location:

Spanaway, WA is a growing community just south of Tacoma that offers a unique blend of urban & rural. It is within driving distance of larger cities like Tacoma, Puyallup, and even Seattle, but much of the area still feels like it is out in the country. The diversity of people, outdoor recreation, and community growth give Spanaway a lot of potential.

 

Role Purpose:

To lead & oversee the youth ministry (7th-12th graders & their parents) and the worship ministry (worship band & tech team). To plan, implement, and lead ministry opportunities for youth to grow their faith in Jesus Christ and strengthen their commitment to the Church. To work with the Lead Pastor to prepare for and lead all worship services.

 

The major responsibilities of the Youth & Worship Pastor are:

  • Oversee the Youth including recruitment and training of adult volunteers.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities for youth.
  • Develop an annual budget for ministry area(s).
  • Coordinate fund-raising activities that support special family and youth activities and trips.
  • Participate in weekly Sunday morning services and develop, lead, and/or coordinate Sunday morning classes.
  • Oversee and coordinate worship activities of the church including Sunday mornings, midweek and special services.

 

The general responsibilities of a pastor at Bethel Naz are:

  • Coordinate all activities with other ministries of the congregation in cooperation with staff.
  • Be in contact with office staff and provide a timely and accurate schedule of ministry activities.
  • Keep the congregation informed of events by coordinating the publicity for activities.
  • Provide monthly reports for the Church Board and a year-end report for the congregation.
  • Manage the disbursement of budgeted funds for ministry areas within the guidelines of the approved budget and in adherence with the purchasing policies of the church.
  • Provide for the keeping of administrative records needed to provide the Past and Church Board information needed for future planning.
  • Encourage families and all young people to participate in all facets of the life of the community of faith  (including worship, educational opportunities, youth activities, camp, service projects, etc.).

 

Schedule & Hours:

We recognize ministry is not an average job; it requires great flexibility in hours, including evenings and weekends. This is especially true in youth ministry, as schedules vary from day-to-day, week-to-week, and especially during the summer. This position is a full time, salaried position based upon a projected 30 hours per week schedule. However, we recognize the actual number of hours will fluctuate as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. It is therefore understood that the Youth & Worship Pastor shall:

  • Maintain some regularly scheduled office hours in order to be accessible to youth, parents, staff and the leadership of the congregation.
  • Keep the church office informed as to how you can be contacted.
  • Notify the staff prior to any absences due to regularly scheduled events.
  • Make sure that worship is covered for any youth ministry related Sunday absence.

 

Qualifications:

Since the Youth & Worship Pastor plays a major role in the faith development of the youth and in the worship of the whole church, Bethel Naz is looking for a leader that exemplifies Christian maturity, humility, and discernment. The candidate must have a strong desire to nurture people of all ages in the Christian faith, generate new ideas for ministry, and work collaboratively to make it happen. Therefore, the following qualifications are desirable:

  • Experience in ministering to young people.
  • Experience in leading congregational or corporate music.
  • Prior or ongoing ministry education (bachelor’s degree preferred). Candidate must be an ordained minister or on a path toward ordination.
