Children & Family Pastor Xenia Church of the Nazarene
Position Summary
The Children & Family Pastor provides spiritual, visionary, and administrative leadership for the children (birth through 6th grade) and their families of the church. This pastor will champion the mission of the Church of the Nazarene.
This position aligns with Nazarene doctrine, polity, and the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene.
Accountability
Accountable to the Lead Pastor and Executive Pastor
Serves as part of the pastoral staff
Works in cooperation with the Church Board
Supports district and denominational initiatives
Primary Responsibilities 1. Spiritual Leadership
Model a Christlike life consistent with Wesleyan-Holiness theology.
Develop and implement a comprehensive discipleship strategy for children and families.
Lead children toward salvation, entire sanctification, and lifelong discipleship.
Provide pastoral care to children and families as needed.
2. Children’s Ministry Oversight (Birth–6th Grade)
Oversee all Sunday morning, midweek, and special children’s programming.
Select and implement biblically sound curriculum consistent with Nazarene doctrine.
Ensure safe church policies are followed (background checks, training, child protection
policies).
Plan and lead special events (Camps, retreats, holiday programs, outreach events).
3. Family Discipleship
Equip and resource parents to disciple their children at home.
Encourage intergenerational ministry opportunities.
Promote family worship and spiritual formation practices.
4. Leadership Development
Recruit, train, schedule, and shepherd volunteer leaders and teachers.
Provide regular encouragement, training, and spiritual development for volunteers.
Develop future ministry leaders within the church.
5. Missional Engagement
Encourage children and families to participate in Nazarene Missions (NMI).
Partner with schools and community organizations for outreach.
Promote compassion ministries and service opportunities for families.
6. Administration
Develop and manage the children’s ministry budget.
Maintain accurate records of attendance and ministry participation.
Communicate effectively with parents and church leadership.
Ensure facilities and classrooms are safe and welcoming.
Qualifications Spiritual & Character
A clear testimony of salvation and sanctification consistent with Wesleyan-Holiness theology.
Agreement with the Articles of Faith of the Church of the Nazarene.
Active member in good standing in a Church of the Nazarene.
Evidence of a call to ministry with children and families.
Education & Credentialing
Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, education, or related field preferred.
Ordained, commissioned, or actively pursuing district licensing within the Church of the
Nazarene preferred.
Experience & Skills
Experience in children’s ministry leadership.
Strong organizational and administrative skills.
Effective communicator with children, parents, volunteers, and staff.
Ability to recruit, train, and lead teams.
Understanding of Nazarene polity and structure.
