Part-Time | Pastoral Staff Position
Position Summary
The Family Pastor provides vision, leadership, and oversight for all ministries serving children, youth, and their families (birth through high school graduation). This role equips parents as the primary disciplers of their children while cultivating a cohesive discipleship pathway across age groups.
The Family Pastor serves as a member of the pastoral team and aligns all ministry efforts with the mission and doctrine of the Church of the Nazarene.
Core Responsibilities
1. Vision & Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement a unified family ministry vision that supports the overall mission of the church.
Create a cohesive discipleship pathway from early childhood through high school.
Ensure theological alignment with the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition of the Church of the Nazarene.
2. Ministry Oversight & Program Development
Oversee and coordinate all children’s and youth ministries (birth–12th grade).
Plan and supervise weekly programming, special events, camps, retreats, and outreach efforts.
Develop age-appropriate discipleship curriculum and spiritual growth opportunities.
Maintain safe ministry environments in accordance with church child-protection policies.
3. Recruit, Train, and Develop Volunteers
Volunteer Recruitment
Actively identify, recruit, and onboard volunteers for both children’s and youth ministries.
Communicate ministry needs clearly to the congregation.
Build a strong volunteer culture rooted in discipleship and teamwork.
Volunteer Training & Development
Provide initial and ongoing training for all children’s and youth volunteers.
Equip volunteers in classroom management, discipleship methods, safety policies, and relational ministry.
Develop team leaders who can oversee ministry areas and multiply leadership capacity.
Conduct regular evaluations and encouragement meetings with volunteer teams.
4. Family & Parent Engagement
Equip parents with tools, resources, and training to disciple their children at home.
Provide pastoral care, prayer, and support to families.
Offer family-focused events and discipleship opportunities that strengthen the home.
5. Community Engagement & Outreach
Develop outreach strategies that extend family ministry beyond church walls and into the everyday spaces where students live and grow.
Intentionally connect with unchurched and churched families to create relational bridges into the life of the church.
Partner with local schools, community organizations, and family-centered initiatives when appropriate.
6. Pastoral Care & Presence
Build meaningful relationships with children, youth, and families.
Provide spiritual guidance, counseling (as appropriate), and referral when needed.
Participate in broader pastoral duties as assigned (preaching, visitation, staff collaboration).
7. Administration & Collaboration
Develop and manage ministry budgets.
Coordinate calendars, communications, and ministry logistics.
Attend staff meetings and collaborate with the Lead Pastor and church leadership.
Ensure compliance with church policies and denominational expectations.
Qualifications
A growing, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ.
Agreement with the doctrine and polity of the Church of the Nazarene.
Experience in children’s, youth, or family ministry leadership.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to recruit, train, and shepherd volunteers.
Licensed minister, ordained elder, or actively pursuing credentialing in the Church of the Nazarene preferred.
Position Classification
Part-Time Pastoral Position
Expected commitment: Approximately 15–20 hours per week (flexible scheduling with weekend and evening ministry responsibilities).
Designed to accommodate bi-vocational ministry.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $1,000 per month.
Housing: Free housing in church parsonage located on church grounds.
Utilities: Utilities provided at no cost.
Additional Benefits: (To be determined by local church policy; may include ministry expense reimbursement, conference attendance support, etc.)
