Position Title: Youth Pastor
Reports To: Co-Lead Pastors
Status: Full-Time (Exempt)
Experience Required: 3–5 years of ministry experience
Education Required: Bachelor’s in Ministry, Theology, or related field
Education Preferred: Master’s degree in Ministry, Theology, or related field
Position Overview
The Youth Pastor provides pastoral, theological, and programmatic leadership for ministries serving students in grades 7–12 at Puyallup Nazarene Church in Puyallup, WA. Must be able to work collaboratively as part of a larger staff to embody the overall mission of the church that seeks a transformative Encounter with Jesus, to Equip disciples in following Jesus, and to Engage the world as a church on mission with Jesus.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pastoral Leadership and Discipleship

- Demonstrates the ability to cultivate discipleship opportunities that deepen students’ formation as followers of Jesus.
Capable of navigating and pastoring diverse cultural perspectives and creating welcoming environments for students from a variety of backgrounds.

- Demonstrates a deep theological foundation, rooted in scripture and Wesleyan-Holiness theology.

3. Program Development and Oversight

- Manage and develop discipleship opportunities to meet the various needs of teens and their families.

- Demonstrate creative and theologically attuned means for discipleship and service that invites teens into a deeper fellowship with one another, the congregation, the community, and Jesus.
4. Volunteer Leadership and Development

- Recruits, trains, and equips both teen and adult leaders for the ministry.

- Can identify mature and growing disciples ready to go deeper in their faith.

- Provides avenues for feedback from other leaders.

- Demonstrates a humble posture that can navigate critique and conflict with wisdom.
5. Family and Congregational Partnership

- Must be able to collaborate with other ministries and staff to accomplish the overall vision of the church.

- Demonstrates a servant’s heart that jumps in to help with other tasks of ministry as needed.

- Communicates, connects with, and helps equip and resource families to create an ecosystem of discipleship for teens.

- Participates and leads in corporate worship, such as preaching or other elements, as assigned.
6. Administration and Stewardship

- Demonstrates timeliness and time-management skills.

- Ability to organize, manage, and execute multiple events, tasks, and calendar related to youth ministry.
Schedule and Physical Expectations

- Availability for evening and weekend programming.

- Participation in retreats, camps, and mission opportunities.

- Ability to manage the physical demands associated with youth ministry activities.
