JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:  GP Child Development Ministry Director

TIME: Full-time

This position shall be a full-time position on the pastoral staff of Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene. It shall require an annual renewal upon the recommendation of the Lead Pastor and approval of the District Superintendent. Accountability shall be to the Lead Pastor and the GPCDM Board.

SALARY: $ 45-50,000 Annually, Commensurate with Experience and Education

Overview of responsibilities:

To lead Grace Pointe Childcare Development Ministries in providing an age-appropriate, holistic Christian development ministry for children from 8 weeks to PreK.

Summary of Duties: To lead the Childcare Ministry of Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene by:

  • Ensuring a safe, caring, and Christian educational environment for young children.
  •  Developing a curriculum and program in cooperation with the GDCDM Board & GP pastoral staff.
  •  Encourage, manage, and coach teachers and staff.
  • Recruit and hire new staff.
  • Managing facility use and ensuring a safe environment.
  • Creating and maintaining an operational budget.
  • Marketing the Ministry
  • Communicating clearly with parents and staff.
  •  Overseeing Food Services
  • Ensuring compliance with appropriate state rules and regulations concerning the Childcare Ministry.

 

EDUCATION:  Associate or bachelor’s degree. A degree in Early Childhood Development preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS: NAEYC Childcare Director Accreditation or licensure equivalent; Basic First Aid, Pediatric Life Support (CPR), and Universal Precautions.

  • Classroom experience as a preschool teacher.
  • Excellent communication skills: the ability to confidently meet with the GPCDM Board, parents, staff, and teachers and communicate clearly through email, phone calls, presentations, and meetings.
  • Capacity to become an adequate manager of projects, teams, and staff.
  • Ability to coach classroom teachers and staff into appropriate acumen, professionalism, spiritual maturity, appropriate curriculum design, and punctuality.
  • Leadership skills: the ability to motivate staff and assist in resolving conflicts in a timely manner.
  • A fundamental operational ability to use computers and technology.
  • Good Crisis management: the ability to remain cool and composed in a demanding situation.

General Expectations:

  • To be faithful in Church Attendance, participation, and financial giving.
  • To attend regular weekly staff meetings.
  • To attend to personal Spiritual Disciplines (Bible reading, Prayer, Accountability, etc.
  • To work in cooperation with other staff members and ministries of the church and contribute to and participate in church wide events.
  • To communicate clearly with the Church Office, Church Board, Grace Pointe Ministry Staff, GPCDM Staff, and Parents.
  • To model Christlikeness for others in attitudes and actions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • To provide leadership, organization, and coordination of GPCDM in being and becoming a Christ-centered and child-focused ministry of Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene.
  • To develop plans for future expansion of GPCDM.
  • Lead the GPCDM Board: The director, in consultation with the Lead pastor, will organize and lead GPCDM Board Meetings and suggest nominees to this board to the Church Board of Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene.

Staff & Teacher Oversight:

  • To interview, hire and train staff, making sure that all background and fingerprint checks have been conducted.
  • To meet quarterly or semi-annually with GPCDM teachers and staff, individually and in groups, to foster accountability and development.
  • Oversee curriculum and program: To work closely with the GPCDM Board, teachers, and staff, to create and implement developmentally appropriate Christian curriculum and programs to meet the goals of the ministry, state and parent’s expectations.
  • Pursue Pathways to Quality Recognition by working with the GPCDM Board and Staff to move through the steps of quality improvement.

Budget & Finance Management:

  • Create and manage the budget and all aspects of GPCDM finances, including ensuring that payroll is completed properly, programs stay within budget and family accounts and delinquencies are managed.
  •  To oversee the writing and submission of community grants.

Market GPCDM:

  • To develop, implement, and manage a marketing plan to promote awareness of GPCDM in the community and supervise enrollment activities.
  • To meet with parents of prospective children to ensure GPCDM is a good fit for them.

Nurture Communication:

  • To develop systems of feedback and input for parents, teachers, and staff.
  •  As needed, to facilitate communication between teachers and parents about a child’s development, learning, and behavioral needs or concerns.

Food Service Management: Ensure that appropriate menus (snacks & meals) are developed, and food allergies are considered.

Facilities Management:

  • To ensure that the facility is safe, clean, and clutter-free. This includes checking that safety equipment is available and working, removing hazards, and planning for repairs and improvements as necessary.
  • This includes transitioning shared rooms for church use and management of materials so that the church building is available for ministry in non-school hours.

Working Relationships: Build relationships with parents, children, teachers, and staff in order to nurture unity and harmony at GPCDM. Key relationships include:

  • Pastor, Children’s Pastor & Ministry staff
  • GPCDM Teachers & Staff
  • GPCDM Board Members
  • GPCDM Parents

 

Accountability & Reporting:

  • There will be regular direct accountability to the Lead Pastor.
  •  The GPCDM Director will provide a monthly report to the GPCDM Board and the Church Board of Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene, which will include a treasurer’s report for GPCDM.
  • Monthly reports will be filed with the Pastor, the GPCDM Board & Church Board.

Anticipated Results:

  •  Increased engagement and participation of GPCDM Children and their families in the life of Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene.
  •  The development of clear systems for the functioning of GPCDM.
  •  An increased number of children professing faith in Jesus.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $ 45-50,000 Annual Salary paid on a bi-weekly schedule.
  •  The Salary will be reviewed annually by the GPCDM Board at the close of the fiscal year (March 1).
  • Vacation – GPCDM Director shall be eligible for 10 Days of vacation in the first year of employment and after that up to 15 days per year. 5 Days of vacation will be available after the first 90 days of employment, and an additional five days after 6 months of employment.
  • PTO In addition to vacation days, there will be an additional 12 days available for PTO for illness and personal business, which may be taken in four- or eight-hour increments. These days do not accrue and do not roll over. PTO dates are from August to July.
  • The GPCDM Director will have a budget of $ 1000 to be used annually for Continued Education and/or Certifications, which includes money for registration fees, travel, and housing.
